Sadie sat across the desk looking at the piles of reports from the tape recordings of last night's operation. She seemed to be deep in thought, but raised her head and smiled at Hawks. He decided to go for a walk and get some fresh air.

While walking down the street, Hawks tried to figure out how he could have fallen in love with one of his field directors.

“Listen to me, trying to talk myself out of loving a great woman, one that knows my job and understands,” he said aloud.

Most of the agents were divorced two or three times, simply because their wives didn't understand the job they had. Hawks has a woman that knows exactly what his responsibilities are. Obviously she can live with them, because hers are the same.

But what kind of life would we have, he thought miserably, me in Washington and her here in California?

Then he thought he heard someone call his name, but as he looked around all he could see was a crowd of people walking in every which way.

He headed on down the street wondering how this relationship would work. The next thing he knew, someone was pulling on his arm. He turned to see Sadie looking at him with a very nasty snarl on her face.

"Just what do you think you're doing?" Sadie snapped. "I saw the look on your face as you left the office."

"I noticed you were reading reports and decided to go for a walk," he said, looking confused.

"Well, did you think I was going to let you talk yourself out of our relationship?" she asked, putting her hands on her hips. "I know how you are. You take walks to figure out how to do something. If it's our relationship that you're worried about, it'll work. I love you damn it," she said with a hurt look in her eyes.

"What gave you the idea that I take walks to figure out things?" he asked, surprised that anyone had paid his actions any notice.

"When Mike came in, he told me that you told the secretary you were taking a walk. He also said you took walks only to figure out something," she stated abruptly.

He looked at her a moment, trying to figure out how to tell her what he'd been thinking. "Let's walk on down here," he said as he took her arm and held her close.

They walked to a little park and sat on a bench and didn't speak to each other for quite some time.

Finally he said, "I don't know what to do about the problem of you being on the west coast and me on the east coast."

"That'll be no problem," she said smiling. "I can always transfer to headquarters and take a position there. All I want is you," she said, and rested her head on his shoulder. "If needed, I'll quit my job and then there'll be no problems at all," she whispered.

They sat there quietly for a while. He took her hand and said, "I love you and don't want to lose you." She kissed him.

Sorry it has been so long, but this last month has been both sorrowful and somewhat productive.

We lost my wife’s mother a few weeks ago and it has been hard on everyone. The memories never go away and we will keep them fresh in our mind forever.

On the production side, I received the novel back from the Beta Reader, with very few concerns.

The most positive thing said was, “Bear in mind I am just a reader and I read authors I like. You are maintaining my interest. “

At least I know it is not boring and kept them reading. Now to fix the few things they suggested with time shifts and it will be ready to go.

The Book Cover is in development, but will take some time as we want it perfect.

It is called Hawks’ Dilemma. Here is a logline I am working with:

Thrust into the unwanted leadership of the President's secret unit, Hawks must lead his agency while worrying about the female agent that he has fallen in love with.

A bigger description is:

Hawks' Dilemma is the first in a series of action-crime novels in which Steve Hawks (POV), Director of the Espionage and Terrorist Bureau, must face several investigations, including his new wife being kidnapped, all at the same time. This causes a dilemma for Hawks because he is pressured by his boss, the President of United States, to work on only one investigation dealing with a senator’s son.

I am now starting to edit the second one in this series. Here is line describing it:

Deadly Revenge is the second in a series of action-crime novels in which Steve Hawks (POV), Director of the Espionage and Terrorist Bureau, is directed by the President of the U.S. to enter the war against the Drug Cartel. This causes Hawks more problems, especially when his wife goes missing at sea.

Okay, what are you up to?  Are you going to do the novel challenge in November?

It has been over a week since I retired, even though it just feels like summer vacation. I will realize it truly when August gets here and I am not going back to work. We attended our granddaugther's graduation and then the party last Sunday. Both were nice events.

I have finished re-writing one of the novels from first-person to third-person. Now I need to do a final editing to make sure there are no plots holes, grammar errors, or anything else that may be wrong with it, before I send it to a Beta reader.

I still have another complete one to re-write and a third one to finish. There may be even a fourth one somewhere on this computer waiting for more action to take place with it. I know there is another story based off She Rises at Dawn (eBook listed below) that I started but have not finished.

I went fishing last week with my oldest son and only caught a headache, no fish. I guess we will be doing that again sometime in the near future. Only this time I hope to catch fish instead of a headache.

Why not leave a message down below and let us all know what your plans for the summer are?  Will you be doing any fishing and if so, where?

We would enjoy reading about you and what is going on in your life.

See you next time,
John

Hollywood Dreams

In just three days, it will be my last day of being a teacher. Final exams are the next two days and then close out on Wednesday. But, unlike other summers in the past, there will be no going back for me.

I am told by retired friends that I will have less time than I have had in the past. It seems they are always busy and time moves faster. I certainly hope this is true, well at least the busy part, and not so much the time flying by part.

What am I going to do is the number one question people have been asking me for the past six-months since I announced my retirement. The first thing is to relax. Maybe I won't lie awake wondering how I am going to get this student to pass, when they do nothing but sit there. At least that problem won't exist for me anymore.

I will still have my hobby of Amateur Radio and the capability of talking around the world. I have three novels that I have neglected for the past year, that are waiting for me to edit them and try to sell to a publisher. I hope to get these done sometime in the near future. I was asked about editing a journal publication, so I will investigate that more.

And of course, I get to drive my wife nuts by being home every day. I am sure she will find something for me to do. There are several repairs around the house that need to be done, so that will keep me busy.

Most of all, I hope to live. With the less stress of fighting students who don't want to do the work and the pressure of having to pass all students gone, I hope to extend my life to a ripe old age (excuse the old cliché).

To all the students I have had in the past, thanks for the memories.

See you next time,
John

Dreamer's Paradise

Posted By John Poindexter

Today, May 8th marks the 46th anniversary for my lovely bride and me. I hope we still have many years to go.

June is approaching, just not fast enough. Still have 18 working days and three weeks calendar wise to go before retirement.

It seems that now that I am planning on not working anymore, more and more things are breaking down. This is causing us to spend more money to fix things than we had planned to do with our money. I have not been able to do the work that we need to get done. It will have to wait until I am not working for it to happen now.

I still have not worked on the novel lately. Just seems there is never a good time to sit and down write.  Hopefully, when summer comes there will be time for that to happen. It sure is not going to write itself.

Okay, what is going on in your world?  Any summer plans yet?

Leave a message below and let us all know what your plans are.

Not much else to say right now, as I must go and see about the steaks we are having for our dinner.

See you next time,
John
