Today, May 8th marks the 46th anniversary for my lovely bride and me. I hope we still have many years to go.
June is approaching, just not fast enough. Still have 18 working days and three weeks calendar wise to go before retirement.
It seems that now that I am planning on not working anymore, more and more things are breaking down. This is causing us to spend more money to fix things than we had planned to do with our money. I have not been able to do the work that we need to get done. It will have to wait until I am not working for it to happen now.
I still have not worked on the novel lately. Just seems there is never a good time to sit and down write. Hopefully, when summer comes there will be time for that to happen. It sure is not going to write itself.
Okay, what is going on in your world? Any summer plans yet?
Leave a message below and let us all know what your plans are.
Not much else to say right now, as I must go and see about the steaks we are having for our dinner.
See you next time,
John

Monday April 11 will be the 37th day left for this school year. It will also be one more work day closer to my last one. I will have one more day than the students.
As I sit here writing this, I think back to the day in 1990 when I interviewed for the job and got talked into coaching football too. I had no plans to stay here for 26 years as I wanted to move closer to our childhood home and teach there. But things change.
We raised our two sons here, who graduated from Knox and have gone on to have their own families. We have three wonderful grand children. Our oldest is now 18 and was not expected to live even a year.
I laugh when I think about a couple years ago when we were given Macs to use and she was the one that showed me how to use the programs on it. We used to play word games and she would beat me. She could solve them faster than I on that computer screen. This is funny in a way because she is the one labeled special education and I'm the one with the really high IQ.
Now, don't think that grandpa lets her win all the time, she really did solve them faster than I at times.
She is very smart, even with the syndrome she has, as it affects her growth more than her mind.
My grandson, so far is the last young male in the family to carry on the family name. He is still trying to determine what he wants to do in life, but whatever he decides he will achieve as he can do most anything that is given to him to do. He just this last week of spring break went on a field trip for a graphics printing competition. Can't wait for him to get back to see how they did.
Our youngest one is three now and smart as a tack. Excuse the old cliche. She will be starting school way ahead of others at the rate she is learning now. She sat here the other day writing in a notebook, saying she was doing her homework.
I hope to get to live long enough to see all them grow up to be adults.
For me in 38 working days or 7 weeks on the calendar, I will have more than enough time to concentrate on writing. I need to get those novels rewritten into third person to make everyone happy. I just need to get my butt in the chair and write. That will be hard as it will be summer and I will want to be out enjoying the warmth of the sun. Especially after this winter that is still hanging on, as we had snow just yesterday.
What are your summer plans? Is your family doing anything special? Leave a note below and tell us all what your plans are.
See you next time,
John

Here it is April 2nd and we are having a snow storm. It is hard to believe that is supposed to be spring. People post pictures of them fishing, but then you find out it is down south somewhere. Sure, one or two went here on the warm days in the past couple of weeks, but for the most part it has been too damn cold to go fishing.
We have one more week of spring break and the forecast is for very cold weather. It wouldn't be a true spring break without cold weather. Oh well, maybe by the time school is out it will be warm. Not betting on it.
Retirement can not come fast enough. I am ready. It will be a long seven weeks to go until the end. Not easy ones either, as students are starting to get in shut down mode and of course State testing coming up again.
My seniors have big projects to do and I hope they will do them so they don't fail. Just because we are getting to two months left, doesn't mean we don't have work to do. I am hoping that no one fails this last quarter.
Thinking of spring, I guess it is time to load a new reel with fishing line. Years ago I bought a life-time license and didn't even go last year at all and maybe once the year before. But, I feel better health wise this year, so maybe I will go more. My son will like that idea.
Anyway, here is to a fast seven weeks, may yours be as easy as I wish mine will be.
What are your plans for summer? Leave a note below in the comment section and tell us all what they are.
See you next time,
John

Do you have trouble deciding what to do when you have time to do something? Trying to decide to do work or play at one of your hobbies has to be one of the hardest decisions to make during your free time.
I know I should be writing, but Amateur Radio keeps calling me to my radio. I enjoy working people in different countries on the frequencies we are allowed to use. Whether it is talking to them with your voice or using Morse code or digital is very exciting, especially when you talk to someone in a new country that you have not talked to before.
Now technically we call talking to someone, working them on 20 meters, or whatever band we are on at that time. So, I guess if someone asks if I am working, I can say sure I am because I am working different people in different countries.
I know that I should be writing and not playing, but the thrill of talking to someone across the world by sending a signal out on a thin wire is unbelievable.
Amateur radio is also used for emergency communications as well. Some Hams (as we are called) chase storms and report in to the Weather Bureau. My young son, when he was little, used to like to go chase storms until a tornado came to close to us, then he wasn't sure if he wanted to go anymore.
If you’re interested in talking to people without having to pay for it, check out Amateur Radio. You have to have a Federal license to use Amateur Radios, but the test is not hard anymore. http://www.arrl.org/getting-your-technician-license

This year is moving fast, but I suspect the next 4 months will take forever. When I look at the countdown calendar it reads 74 days, but those are working days, not calendar days.
I am getting ready to file my paperwork with the State for my retirement. It is funny that you have a last day at work, but the official retirement date for the State is not until the first day of the next month.
Oh! It is confusing to say the least. Seven pages of paperwork and some are so confusing you should have an accountant with you to help fill them out.
Anyway, I will be ready for summer, not just because I am retiring, but to get rid of this frozen weather. I hate winter.
