Here it is April 2nd and we are having a snow storm.  It is hard to believe that is supposed to be spring. People post pictures of them fishing, but then you find out it is down south somewhere. Sure, one or two went here on the warm days in the past couple of weeks, but for the most part it has been too damn cold to go fishing.

We have one more week of spring break and the forecast is for very cold weather. It wouldn't be a true spring break without cold weather. Oh well, maybe by the time school is out it will be warm.  Not betting on it.

Retirement can not come fast enough. I am ready. It will be a long seven weeks to go until the end. Not easy ones either, as students are starting to get in shut down mode and of course State testing coming up again.

My seniors have big projects to do and I hope they will do them so they don't fail. Just because we are getting to two months left, doesn't mean we don't have work to do. I am hoping that no one fails this last quarter.

Thinking of spring, I guess it is time to load a new reel with fishing line. Years ago I bought a life-time license and didn't even go last year at all and maybe once the year before.  But, I feel better health wise this year, so maybe I will go more. My son will like that idea.

Anyway, here is to a fast seven weeks, may yours be as easy as I wish mine will be.

What are your plans for summer? Leave a note below in the comment section and tell us all what they are.

See you next time,
John

Do you have trouble deciding what to do when you have time to do something? Trying to decide to do work or play at one of your hobbies has to be one of the hardest decisions to make during your free time.

I know I should be writing, but Amateur Radio keeps calling me to my radio. I enjoy working people in different countries on the frequencies we are allowed to use. Whether it is talking to them with your voice or using Morse code or digital is very exciting, especially when you talk to someone in a new country that you have not talked to before.

Now technically we call talking to someone, working them on 20 meters, or whatever band we are on at that time.  So, I guess if someone asks if I am working, I can say sure I am because I am working different people in different countries.

I know that I should be writing and not playing, but the thrill of talking to someone across the world by sending a signal out on a thin wire is unbelievable.

Amateur radio is also used for emergency communications as well.  Some Hams (as we are called) chase storms and report in to the Weather Bureau. My young son, when he was little, used to like to go chase storms until a tornado came to close to us, then he wasn't sure if he wanted to go anymore.

If you’re interested in talking to people without having to pay for it, check out Amateur Radio.  You have to have a Federal license to use Amateur Radios, but the test is not hard anymore. http://www.arrl.org/getting-your-technician-license

This year is moving fast, but I suspect the next 4 months will take forever.  When I look at the countdown calendar it reads 74 days, but those are working days, not calendar days.

I am getting ready to file my paperwork with the State for my retirement. It is funny that you have a last day at work, but the official retirement date for the State is not until the first day of the next month.

Oh! It is confusing to say the least. Seven pages of paperwork and some are so confusing you should have an accountant with you to help fill them out.

Anyway, I will be ready for summer, not just because I am retiring, but to get rid of this frozen weather. I hate winter.

Welcome to the New Year!

Before Christmas I turned in my letter of retirement to the Superintendent and principal.

It will go in affect on June 3, the day after our last day. Having a desire to live a little longer is one of the reasons why I am retiring at this time. It will be a new chapter in our lives and we are looking forward to it.

Of course that will give me more time to write, so maybe I will get some of these novels I have started finished and published.

Here is a little more of a new one I am working on, way too slowly.
Feel free to leave a comment below.

A half hour later, Mike turned off onto a gravel road. They drove for about five miles and then pulled off to the side.

"Time to get out and stretch," Hawks said as he climbed out of the car.

"Why are we stopping here?" Jenny asked. "We just got going again."

"Well, we have some business to conduct," Hawks said. "I want to know who you're working for?"

"I don't know what you mean," she said, her eyes opening wide.

"Yes, you do," Hawks said, taking a step closer to her. "Mike heard you tell someone that you planted a homing device on our car. Now either talk or we leave you here."

"He must be mistaken," she said bitterly. "I'm not working for anyone."

"Take off your shoes, socks, and coat," Hawks said as he pulled his gun.

"You're crazy!" she said and backed up.

"Do it or we will," Hawks said.

As she pulled off the items, Hawks said, "Jim, search her bag."

"There's nothing in the bag except clothes," Jim said.

"Put these in there," Hawks said as he tossed him her shoes, socks, and coat.

"You're on your own now lady. By the way, your device is on another vehicle," Hawks said as he climbed back into the car.

"You can't leave me here like this," she said frantically. "I'll freeze."

"It’s not that cold," Hawks said as Mike pulled away.

See you next time,

John

Here is the opening of my latest work. Feel free to leave comments below.

"How long are we going to stay here, Steve?" Jim Horton asked.

"Until I'm sure that he isn't here." Steve Hawks looked around from the tree line to the ridge, while Mike Phillips stepped into the woods.

"Freeze," shouted a Security Guard coming out from behind the bushes and pointing a gun at Hawks’ chest.

Mike came out behind him, hitting him hard enough to knock the gun from his hand.

"Who the hell are you and what do you want with us?" Hawks said, grabbing and pulling him to his feet.

Before he could answer, another guard jumped out and opened fire. The bullets were pounding into the back of the first individual. Hawks was glad that he had put on his bullet-proof vest.

Before Hawks could say anything, Mike had pulled his gun and shot the shooter.

As they stood there wondering who they were, Jim said, "Look at the ridge."

On the ridge stood several uniformed police officers.

"Throw down your guns and surrender," the one in the middle of the line yelled.

     "We're federal agents," Hawks yelled.

     "You're under arrest," he said.

"Steve, let’s get out of here," Mike said as he and Jim moved for the car.

It was then the officers opened fire. Luckily, they were hitting ten to fifteen feet short of where we were running. As they piled into the cars, they could hear the sirens of more police approaching from the south.

"What's going on Steve?" Mike asked as he turned north.

"I don't know and I don't like it," Hawks said.

"Why would they want us?" Jim asked.

"We haven't time to wait and see. Where's the other car?" Hawks said, looking to the rear.

"They're ahead of us," Mike said. I think they turned right there at the fork."

Just as they were about to follow them, they saw them coming back down the road with flashing lights right behind them.

"Turn left," Hawks said as Mike was all ready turning.

They were only minutes ahead of the cops that were first noticed and now had ones coming from the forked road, too. As the second car came up alongside of them, one of the agents yelled, "What's going on?"

"I don't know," Hawks said. "But as soon as you can, split off and meet us at Newton One in three days."

"Is that where we're heading Steve?" Jim asked.

"Until we can figure out what the hell is going on," Hawks said, looking behind them.

"Should we try to call the office?" Mike asked.

"Yes, but right now isn't the time," Hawks said as a bullet came crashing through the rear window nearly hitting him. "Get us the hell out of here!"
