WOW! The world is going crazy. Toilet paper shortage. Why?

This not a flu that causes you to have the shits.

This mad rush to buy everything whether you need it or not is ridiculous.

Before being house bound last Saturday, I get a call from my oldest son.

He asks for help because his truck is stuck in a mud field that just last work was solid ground.

So, I take my truck over to pull him out of it and end up getting stuck too.

His landlord comes along and he pulls me free. Son takes my truck and goes at his in a different direction to try to pull his truck out.  Once again, my truck gets stuck.

After all that, we go to Tractor Supply and I end up buying a 9000-pound pull winch.

By the way, I am starting a pull you out business with my winch. Prices are reasonable.

Anyway, the winch pulled his truck free and then we moved it to his truck parked outside the mud field and he pulled my truck free.  Total time 9:30 to 2:00.

Not what was on my schedule for that day. But what the heck, we were working together.

This week has been staying in the house and only going out once so far to pick up a lunch meal.

We went to a place called Sporty’s at Bass Lake to get a carry out meal. Then parked in front of the old Shore Club and ate lunch while looking at the lake across the street.  There was one fishing boat out there. Too far out to see if they were catching their next meal. LOL.

Will have to go to Lowe’s one day this week to get supplies needed to wire up a new 220-volt line before they come next week to put in the new furnace.  Going to be really warm in here after that.

Maybe I will even work on the new novels if the Muse shows up and moves me to write.

How are you doing during this time of having to stay in or being very careful around people?

Looking at the new novel and I thought I would share a scene or two from it. Maybe someday I will get back to it.

I need to find the willpower to get back to writing.

My mind is writing new stories, but the fingers are not putting them down on paper or in a document.

The Muse has been gone since before my heart surgery. She seems to be taking an extra-long vacation.

Does anyone know how to call her back?  I believe there has to be a way to get her to return and to inspire me to get off my ass and write.

If you have any advice, please leave a message down below in the Comment section. It will ask for some info on you, but that is not saved anywhere. At least I have never found it, so I can't use it to spam you. Feel free to leave a comment. Trust me, we have tested this and the info you leave is not used.

Hawks looked at his watch and it read eleven-thirty when Mike came out of his room and they left the motel. Hawks was hoping Juan would be at the fishing pier. He didn't want to chase him down again.

It took them ten minutes to arrive at the pier. As they pulled in the parking lot, Hawks said, “Mike, pull up here and let's wait.”

“You don't think this guy will double cross us, do you?” Mike said, looking around the nearly empty lot.

“I hope not, for his sake.”

“There's a car pulling in from the west drive,” Mike said.

“Maybe that's him. Just sit tight until we're sure he's alone.”

Juan climbed out of his car and walked toward the pier. He leaned up against the railing at the edge of the pier and just looked out toward the water. After a few quiet minutes, Hawks decided he must be alone.

“Mike, stay here with the car and watch my back,” Hawks said.

“Sure.”

As Hawks walked up to Juan, he kept his guard up. “Juan, what do you have for me?”

“Man, you sure got me in a lot of trouble.” The man's face was shiny with perspiration, and his hands shook slightly. Hawks could tell it had not been an enjoyable meeting he'd had with Carlos. “Carlos was pissed off about losing my shipment. He's not sure what his boss is going to do with me.”

“Didn't you explain that you had no choice?”

“Yes, but they couldn't find the goods where I said I dumped them. It looks like I stole them, trying to make a deal for myself.”

“No problem,” Hawks said, shaking his head. “I'll have a news release put out that the Coast Guard found them. That should cover you. Now, when is the next shipment coming in?”

“I don't know,” he said and paused. “Carlos wouldn't tell me anything because I lost this shipment. All he said was that if I get another shipment, I wouldn't be paid for either trip.”

Hawks nodded. “That's what you told me this morning. Give me your best guess as to when it's coming.”

He shrugged and said, “Thursday or Friday night.”

“I want a call as soon as you find out,” Hawks said, pointing his finger at him.

“Yes, I remember the number. Now I must go before someone spots us. There are not many fishermen out here on this pier,” he said, looking around.

“I'll be waiting for your call.” Hawks turned to walk away.

{In this selection, the tension between Hawks and his wife over her working starts again}

“What assignments do you have for us?” Hawks turned to watch Sadie's expression.

“I have two. Sadie, your job is to work with the radio operator. I want one of you to be here at all times. Steve, I would like for you to pick up Arthur when he gets here.”

“You mean I'm going back to work?” Sadie said excitedly.

“That's what the boss said before we left home,” Mike said and then grimaced at saying it.

Hawks knew he was about to be yelled at for playing this trick on her.

“Steve Hawks,” Sadie shouted. “Why didn't you tell me? And why did you let me believe that you didn't want me to work?”

“I never said I didn't want you to work, just that I thought it was too soon. Besides, I thought over what you said and decided you were right,” he said sheepishly.

“That's not an explanation, that's an excuse,” Sadie snapped and turned to walk toward the radio.

“I told you, you were going to make her mad,” Mike said, looking back to the clipboard he was reading over.

“You didn't help by throwing in the part about before leaving,” Hawks said, frowning.

“Hey, it just slipped out.”

“Thanks, I really needed that kind of help.”

It has been a long time since I updated this Blog.

The wife had surgery, so I had house duty and caring for her. She Is finally back to doing almost everything that she couldn’t do before the operation. Glad she went through with it.

On the writing front, it is time to start on the synopsis and query letter. I know who I want to query first to get her to take on my first book of the series. The list is in an order of my wants for an agent, not agents that do thrillers or crime novels, but who take on mainstream fiction.

May have to do an outline besides the synopsis, as some agents want one. I find these harder to write than the story itself.

I also need to get back to working on the next novel. This one has a lot of tension between the lovers.

Here is a scene for you to evaluate.

When they finished breakfast, Hawks decided to look in on Patricia before leaving for the office. “Patricia is still sleeping. I'll see you tonight,” he said as he came back into the kitchen.

“Steve, I've been thinking about coming back to work. Do you think it's too soon?” she asked, glancing over the paper at me.

“You don't have to come back yet,” he said. “Your leave of absence is not due for review for another two months and I think Patricia needs you here.”

“We can always get someone to watch her.”

They had discussed this before, but he still wasn't sure how he felt about it. “Yes, but she's only six months old and I think her mother should be the one she is with for a little longer.”

“Well, we can discuss it more tonight. With the change in mission, I may be needed,” she said.

“If I need a female agent, I can always use someone else. That way I won't have to worry about you,” he said and knew instantly it was the wrong thing to say.

“If that’s the way you think, then goodbye. I'm going to check on the baby,” she said, shoving her chair into the table.

“Sadie, I'm sorry. If you want to come back to work, it's fine with me,” he said, hoping she would change her mind.

“We'll discuss it,” she said and stomped out of the room.

Hope your new year is starting off good for what you want to accomplish. Let me and the others that read this know what you are doing in your life this winter.

In a discussion with some writers the other night on how you feel about your writing, I made the statement I felt my writing on the second book was better than the first book. My opinion is it has more action than the first.  It was suggested that maybe I should combine the two.

Thinking about this, I remember that I had done that years ago when they were both written in first person.

Original book one has 291 pages with a word count of 52,614. The one is written in third person.

Original book two has 299 pages and 65,261 words. This one has not been rewritten yet and is still in first person.

The combination book is 416 pages and 75,083. But, it too, is in first person.

The series is about the Espionage, Terrorist Bureau which is under the control of the President of the United States.

Thrust into the unwanted leadership of the president's secret unit, Hawks must lead his agency while worrying about the female agent that he has fallen in love with.

In book one, Steve Hawks (POV), Director of the Espionage-Terrorist Bureau, must face several investigations simultaneously, including his new wife being kidnapped. This causes a dilemma for Hawks because while trying to protect his wife, who is also an Agent, he is pressured by his boss, the President of United States, to work on only one investigation dealing with a senator’s son.

Book two starts off with the president assigning a new role for Hawks. Steve must take on the drug cartel and stop the drug flow in the country. Hawks must go undercover to reach the leaders. On the way to the top of the cartel his wife is lost at sea and other agents are injured. All this takes place in the Florida panhandle and Colombia.

Here is where I need your help.

Should I combine them or leave them separate as book one and two of the series. Book three and four are started.

Then next question is should they be in first person or third person?

I look forward to reading your comments and hope you can help me make my mind up on how to go forward with this series.

Hello again,

It is hard to believe that the middle of August is here already. Where did summer go?

I am at 11 weeks post-op and feeling good. A slight pain remains in the chest muscles and the thighs. But, nothing like it was. No more shortness of breath and I am able to do more of what I used to be able to do.

Finally printed out the old synopsis for book one and two. Have not started to rewrite them yet or create an outline, but I might sometime this week.

Need to find my Muse, so I can get back into the writing.

What do you do to get started writing?

My wife is facing surgery on shoulder, so I will be nursing her instead of her nursing me. Good thing I am better. Hopefully, her recovery will be as short as mine.

Okay, it is your turn tell us about what you have been doing or will do this fall.  Leave a message down below and tell us about yourself.

Until next time,

John
